Residential real estate is one of the most popular alternative investments for Americans. It’s also
extremely successful. However, that success can vary drastically by location. The Wall Street Journal teamed up with Realtor.com to put together a list of the 300 best markets. Coeur D’Alene, ID; Austin, TX; Springfield, OH; Billings, MT; and Spokane, WA were the five leading markets. Real estate supply and demand lead the methodological categories, but they also consider wages, regional price parity, amenities, commute, foreign-born residents, and small business health. At the bottom of the index was New York, NY.
